Portland, Maine
A 24-room boutique hotel on the edge of the Portland waterfront, where New England charm meets quiet luxury.
The Marlowe opened its doors in 2019 with a simple idea: that a hotel should feel like a home you'd never want to leave. Set on Portland's working waterfront, our 24 rooms blend the warmth of a New England cottage with the quiet refinement of a city hotel.
Every detail is considered — from the locally sourced linens to the coffee on your nightstand (Stoneleigh, roasted in nearby Portland). We believe the best stays happen when you forget you're in a hotel at all.

Each room is individually designed with a coastal palette, natural materials, and the kind of bed you'll linger in until noon.
Waking to the sound of buoys and the sight of working boats. These rooms face east toward the harbor, with deep soaking tubs and hand-towels from a local mill.
A private terrace overlooking our walled garden, a separate sitting area, and a marble bathroom that feels more spa than hotel. Ideal for those who want a little extra breathing room.
Our top floor, all to yourself. Panoramic views of Casco Bay, a full kitchen, a private library nook, and a wraparound deck. This is the room guests write to tell us about.
Our restaurant, Salt & Ember, is the heart of The Marlowe. Chef Elena Torres builds her menu around what's hauled in at Portland's Eastern Market each morning — lobster, scallops, wild fish, and the region's remarkable produce.
The bar features cocktails that draw from New England's maritime history: think spruce needle infusions, barrel-aged rye, and house-made bitters. Dinner reservations open at 5:30 PM. The bar stays open until midnight.
Portland rewards the curious. Here are a few of our favorite ways to spend a day — all within reach of the hotel.
Paddle past rocky islands and lighthouses. We can arrange guided tours through our partners at Casco Bay Lines.

We came for a weekend and almost didn't want to leave. The Marlowe has this rare quality — it feels both luxurious and deeply comfortable, like someone designed it for you specifically.
