A field-serial automatic built around a 38 mm bead-blasted titanium case, sapphire on both faces, and a movement you can watch work. Cased, timed and logged by hand in Portland — then the tooling goes back in the drawer.

02 — The movement

Thin, quiet, honest.

We chose the Miyota 9039 for the reason enthusiasts argue about: no date wheel means the hands sit true at 12, and the movement sits low in a slim case. Everything else we do by hand — oil applied under magnification, a regulated spring, and 240 hours of observation before your serial goes in the ledger.

03 — Anatomy

Every layer earns its millimetre.

Hover a line to trace it through the section. The 11.2 mm profile is the sum of seven parts we refuse to outsource.

SECTION A–A · 41.6 mm overall incl. crystal 1 2 3 5 4
  • 01Boxed sapphire crystal

1.6 mm dome, two anti-reflective layers, 1.2 mm gasket seat. Survives a doorframe; it will not survive granite.

  • 02Coin-edge bezel

Turned, not stamped. 120 knurl cuts catch light the way a machined part should.

  • 03Grade 5 titanium case

Ti-6Al-4V, bead-blasted to a matte 0.6 Ra, with hand-polished chamfers at the lugs.

  • 04Miyota 9039, regulated

Springs selected by amplitude, not by bin. Your timing sheet is signed.

  • 05Twin fluorine gaskets

Compression-sealed at bezel and back. Pressure-tested to 12 bar, individually.

  • 06Screw-down crown

Two full turns, a firm click, and a thread you can feel through a glove.

  • 07Exhibition caseback

Sapphire window, six screws, and room for 16 characters of your own.

Engrave the caseback.

Sixteen characters, cut 0.15 mm into the titanium with the same fixture we use for serials. Co-ordinates, a date, initials, something untranslatable.

Stopped checking other watches

“I have a 16.5 cm wrist and this is the first 'small' watch that doesn't read like a dress piece. The bead blast takes a patina instead of scratches. The canvas band dried overnight after a river crossing, which is all I ask of anything.”

One small gripe, honestly

“Timing sheet said +4; four months later it sits at +9. Not bad, just not what was promised on paper. Sent it in under warranty, back in nine days regulation-free and they replaced the gaskets at no cost. That's why it's still on my wrist daily.”

Reads like a tool, weighs like nothing

“I wear it under a lab coat and it never catches. Engraving is genuinely deep — you can feel it with a fingernail, which is the only way I think it should be done.”

Nothing you'd throw away.

The roll becomes a travel organiser; the booklet becomes a reference. We'd rather build twice the packaging than have it land in a bin.

08 — Before you order

Questions we actually get.

Orders placed before 14:00 PT leave the bench the same afternoon, minus one day for engraving. Shipping is free and insured within the US (2–4 days, signature required), $18 to Canada and the EU (4–8 days, duties prepaid — the price you see is the price you pay). Every parcel carries a $500 declared value.

The 38 wears closer to a 36 because of the thin bezel and short 46.4 mm lug-to-lug, so it sits inside the wrist line on most people. If your wrist is over 18.5 cm or you like presence, take the 40 mm. Still unsure? Order the free sizing kit — a printed 36/38/40 shell set that arrives in two days, and we credit the cost against your watch.

Yes to swimming and showers with the crown fully seated — each case is pressure-tested to 12 bar before it ships, above the 10 bar rating. Snorkelling is fine. For scuba, buy a purpose-built diver: a 100 m rating doesn't cover compressed-gas exposure, and we'd rather lose the argument than the watch.

Wear it for 100 days. If it isn't right, email one line and we send a prepaid label — full refund including the original shipping, no condition photos, no restocking fee. Worn is fine; we refinish and re-sell as Seconds. The exception is engraved pieces, which we'll swap or credit rather than return, because we can't resell your wife's initials.

Usually a fresh movement is the right answer, and ours is $45 with the swap at $85 all-in. If you'd rather keep the original, we service in-house: strip, ultrasonic, re-oil, regulate, gaskets, test. Six to eight weeks. Either way the serial stays on the ledger and the history follows the watch, not the owner.
